I recently announced that I did not renew my real estate license because I was tired of working towards this “millionaire” lifestyle that I forgot what really mattered – my family. Although the money in real estate was good, spending time with my family was better. I was tired of doing things to obtain a title that was meaningless. A millionaire? At one point in our lives, that was probably a goal. I’m here to tell you that it shouldn’t be your end goal. I see people talk about what they’re doing to become a millionaire and I can’t quite grasp it. Money is money and you’ll only have people’s respect as long as you have it. Once that money is gone so those people will be too. They didn’t respect you, they respected your money. People will listen to Bill Gates because he’s rich but no one will listen to what a homeless man has to say, even if they said the same exact thing.
Instead, I would rather be surrounded by people who make me feel like a million bucks! Those are the people who will stay through the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to give a shout-out to all my friends and family for always making me feel like a millionaire every day. With or without money, these people are here to stay for good. Those are the people that you want to surround yourself with every day. Sure, you can surround yourself with material goods and all the money in the world but if you have no one to share that with, it’s just temporary things to get you by.
People always talk about how to invest your money and where it should go. I’m here to tell you to invest your time and efforts into yourself, your family, and loved ones. Our days are numbered here on Earth and if you’re not spending it with loved ones, you’re spending it elsewhere.
It’s one thing to hang out with millionaires but it’s also one thing to hang out with people who make you feel like a million bucks! Money can always be made but memories can’t.
“You can borrow money but you can’t borrow time.”
Sincerely,
Melissa Lee
